Lucky me (not), I picked up a bug last week and am on day 6 of being sick. Hubby was stuffy for 1 day with a headache and is fine. Yesterday was an all day in bed kind of day and my energy is nil. Coughing, congestion, fever, chills everything except the liquid part (diariha and vomit) has hit me in the past two days.
There was a time when I was not so prone to illness. MS is an immune system problem as well as neurological. Put simply, the medications that is given to a person with MS suppresses our immune system. Ergo, it is same with those who are in chemotherapy and who have had transplants. We are the elite group that is the one who is most likely to become the most ill from what ever illnesses are going around for the season.
Understand this - not everyone is able to get things like flu vaccines. Double whammy on that one, I guess, since all those vaccines are meant to keep us from getting sick. However, if you are able to get the vacinne for whatever reason, you are at risk. Those who got the vaccine with a "live" virus andthose who are reporting for work in public facing position and just a little bit sick has now shared that virus with those who have immune systems that do not work.
Amazing, I have dodged getting Covid at this point but seem to have picked up the flu once and now this horrid cold. My world involves mostly staying at home, since I am unable to work any longer in the "real" world. I choose carefully where I go and how closely I am around others when I do go. Masks are still a thing but make it hard to breath for some of us and really only protect to a certain degree.
The government guidelines are really a joke on the matter since they have gone from stay home when you are sick for a number of days to only satay home if you have a fever. What a mixed up world when it really just comes down to business as usual. So thank you to the person who felt that their job for the day was more important than to stay home for one more day to recover. I understand that you needed that wage for the day - I have been there, too - but it really pisses me off to know that someone out there was sick enough they really should have stayed home or at least wore a mask to protect those with no immunity.
This is just an opionion and I know that you may have a different view. I just really don't get that with the Covid variants still out there that people are not taking being sick just a tad more serious. If you have a cough - stay home. If you have sinus congestion and post nasal drip - stay home. If you have a fever - stay home. AND please, remember to wash your hands.
It really does take me a lot of energy to get through my daily household tasks and when I get sick, nothing gets done. All my energy is drained to the point where I am unable to even take the dog for a walk or have a nice hot shower. There is laundry to do and dishes that need to be washed and all I want to do is rest.
So remember folks, there are people out there whose immune systems are weak or don't exist through no fault of thier own. When you leave home with that fever and cold that you just took OTC medicine for so you can work, you are part of the problem why some of us are still sick. We have a right to go out into the world and enjoy the day or take care of errands that must be done. No deliveries are not available where I live and I prefer to shop for my own produce.
There was a time shortly after I was diagnosed with MS that I went to the doctor for being sick, sick. I tested positive for Flu and was given meds to reduce the effects so I would only be sick for a week. Ha! It took me three weeks to get over - this is not a joke. Recovery time is much longer for MS people and greatest fear is that the illness requires hosipital to recover. That is when I would really like to find the person that shared the bug and slap them into next Tuesday.
